Port and Terminal Operations — SOLONPORT TOS Certificate Programme
The first day of a two-day certificate programme introducing maritime students to terminal operations, automation culture and TOS workflows.Introduction
SOLON Academy and the IU-C Maritime Club organised a SOLONPORT TOS certificate programme titled Port and Terminal Operations. The first session took place on 3 April 2021 and formed part of a six-hour, two-day programme.
01 — Programme objective
Connect terminal concepts with automation culture
The programme was designed to help participants understand the fundamental concepts of port and terminal operations and examine, through practical examples, the benefits provided by a Terminal Operating System.
Its wider objective was to give maritime students a structured introduction to automation culture and to the relationship between operational processes and terminal software.
02 — Audience and duration
A focused programme for maritime students
The programme was intended for university students studying in maritime departments. It ran for six hours over two days: Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00 to 13:00. Participation was limited.

03 — Curriculum
What participants were expected to learn
Participants were introduced to core port and terminal terminology, the basic concepts of a Terminal Operating System and the role of TOS in practical operations.
The curriculum also considered how TOS benefits, current regulations and operational processes need to be positioned together. Guest participants from the sector helped reinforce the subjects with professional context.
